Square Enix Tax by R-Kasahara Square Enix Tax by R-Kasahara
The "Square Enix Tax" is the general nickname given to the game publisher's tendency to price their Nintendo DS RPGs - including ports of older, previously released titles - $5-10 above the norm.

I'm through with paying the "tax". $40 is way too much for a DS game, no matter how good. I will still support the company, but from now on, I'll buy my Squeenix DS games once they drop in price and/or go on sale.

I end up pirating most SE games, more because I don't own the consoles than a lack of cash or scruples (although the overpricing doesn't help). In any case, I have never, ever bought a console or game less than two years old, which, among other things, appears to be a fairly effective means of circumventing the 'tax' imposed on virtually all games, as in Australia, at least SE games depreciate in value fairly severely over time. Last one I bought was a pre-owned FFTA2 for AUD$34, which I guess could have been a lot worse.

OMFG I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED THIS.

I can't use this stamp, though, because I buy the games anyway, like an awful, awful zombie. D:

I totally agree. Not to mention our EB games tends to hike them even more sometimes, as well as keeping them over priced longer than anyone else it seems.

I'm a cheapo, if a DS game is over 20 bucks I feel extreme pain trying to buy it. ;-;

I agree!! It's a pain when you're poor and want new games, but they sell DS games for too much...they're only a bit cheaper than PS3/Xbox 360 games, even though they're just hand held console games...>.< I ALWAYS wait til they're in the sale xD

Same here! A few months ago, I did get Dragon Quest V - not on sale - because of rumors it was going out of print (and I love me some DQ), but it was on Amazon, so I didn't pay full price anyway ;P

Thanks for the fave and watch, BTW =D

Yeah, they suck for making theirs $40. I barely had enough money to buy The World Ends With You when it came out. x.x

TWEWY was the last Square Enix DS game I bought (well, not entirely true - I also picked up Space Invaders Extreme, but that was $20 and released under Taito's label...). I loved it, but still feel that it was too expensive @_@

BTW, thanks for the fave :)

In the US they do, at least. I've heard that their prices for DS games in Europe are a bit more normal.

I'm going to confirm this for Japan -- my copy of FFIV DS cost more than it would in America -- USED. WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT. :lmao:

They do it everywhere.
Whores. xD

...BUT I BUY THEIR GAMES ANYWAY. xD
*is a shameful Square Zombie*

Well, DS games in general cost more in Japan than they do in the US, especially at the current exchange rate :dead: But yeah, Square Enix's Japanese DS games are usually more expensive than other companies' Japanese DS games!

Thanks for the fave, btw =D

Oh that's what I meant -- they cost more than other DS games in Japan also. x3 But I was trying to also point out that even used, it cost more than a new one in America. AND IT WAS USED. x3

Used games are usually pretty cheap in Japan.
Which is why I buy so many of them. :D :D :D
But FFIV DS was like, 4,300円 if I remember right.

WHICH IS RIDICULOUS. xD

You are very welcome, this stamp is freaking awesome, I am so glad to not be the only one who noticed this. x3

Haha, okay. The only used Japanese games I've bought have been PS1 ones. I guess FFIV DS was really in demand when you got it! At least they aren't used (US-released) Atlus games... those can get really pricey thanks to their low print runs @_@

It might have been, now that I think about it, because I didn't see it new anywhere. x3 Which is one reason I got it used, even though it was relatively new release.

I don't usually buy Altus games, but I have heard that they are usually very good games. :D I think publisher "Tidus" might be similar.

Atlus has published at least one of my favorite games =D They're a great publisher, and quite fan-friendly too.

Actually, DS games over here are usually 40> too.

A2 cost me 44 euros, but some games are even 50> (not just SE games though).
